Areola Reduction
Areolas are the pigmented areas surrounding your nipples. Areola reduction is recommended to those who experience sagging from aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or gain, trauma or genetics.
Do you experience these issues?
✅ Being uncomfortable or unhappy with the size of your areolas
✅ Experience frequent inflammation caused by inverted nipples
✅ In search of a permanent solution to have a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing appearance of the areolas
Solution
Areola reduction surgery is a simple procedure to reduce the size of your areolas and can be paired with a breast lift, breast reduction or breast augmentation. This procedure may be performed under local or general anesthesia and takes up less than an hour.
This procedure starts with the recommendation made by the surgeon to the diameter of the new areola. If the patient is satisfied with the recommended diameter, a doughnut-shaped incision will be made along the perimeter of the areola to remove any extra tissue. Removable or dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions to minimise visible scarring. The area will be dressed with bandages and wearing a special post-surgical bra is recommended.
Recovery
Normal day to day activities can be resumed within a day or two. Like any other surgeries, patients may experience discomfort or pain throughout the recovery process. During the first week of recovery, it is recommended to sleep on the back or on a wedge backrest to ensure optimal healing. Stitches should be in place for 7 to 10 days and shall be kept dry and clean. Depending on the patient’s body condition, it may take up to six weeks to recover completely.
